This paper describes smallholder agricultural systems in the lower Amazon where the Santarém sub-Cluster is based. Here, despite the fertility of floodplain soils and a long tradition of floodplain farming, smallholder agriculture is stagnating. Once the basis of the floodplain economy, its role in smallholder subsistence has now been taken over by commercial fishing and extensive cattle ranching.

The Forum on Readiness for REDD interviewed 70 engaged stakeholders in the REDD+ Readiness process, asking questions about how they receive information, what kind of information they are looking for, and what challenges they face in getting the information they need. The results of these surveys have been compiled and analyzed in the attached in this White Paper.
