This policy brief presents the level of emissions from understory forest wildfires in the Amazon as a way to highlight the urgent need to protect the carbon sink and storage potential, a critical function of the Amazonian rainforests, which has been diminished.

IPAM has the objective to promote the recognition of indigenous peoples and lands as an asset for the country's development and for the climate balance in public policies, guaranteeing their rights and, as a consequence, the protection of forest and water resources in the Amazon.
