O serviço de assistência técnica e extensão rural (ATER) é parte da estratégia central do projeto Assentamentos Sustentáveis na Amazônia (PAS): ele é capaz de promover mudanças nos padrões produtivos, alavancar o manejo integrado dos lotes rurais e fortalecer atividades de baixo impacto nas áreas abertas, reduzindo a demanda por novas áreas para a produção agropecuária.
